The following is a list of about 5000 English Words.
I took each word and checked to see if its domain name was available.
I searched for the .COM, .ORG and .NET domains.

I did a search from June 1, 2000 to June 7, 2000 and a new .com domain name
is added every 5 seconds, so obviously the accuracy of this data cannot be trusted.

How did I do it? I used this
JavaScript code (click then view the source
on the blank page) along with a control called ASP Whois.

Statistics: Out of 50,000 English words
in this list, only 5500 dot coms were available. That's 91% were taken!

About NextOrbit.com
My search for a domain name took me over a month which included several visits to the library
and trips to
Internic to see if the domain names I was
finding were taken.
I even wrote a program which took my list of verbs and nouns I had been collecting and combined them
into
thousands of potential domain names.
I read through all of them and failed to find one I liked
that wasn't taken.
At the same time my friend Judith was also on a search for a domain name of her own.
Every day we would send each lists of possible domain names we thought up.
On her list was something like NextMoon.com and NewOrbit.com and then it just came to me ...
NextOrbit.com! I immediately checked Internic and found it to be available. I then sat on
the name for a few days to see if I still liked after letting it sink in.
It did ... and the rest is history ...
I was interested in the following domain names but they were already taken:
