Total Times for Complete Speed Runs through all 9 chapters
Show more info
The YouTube start & stop times are recorded in the data so accuracy is
within 1 second. For instances where the times are very close, the runs
will be timed with a stop watch and the start and stop times will reflect
the correct order from best to worst. When timing these runs, the timer
starts and stops when the player gains and loses control over Chell. This
is based on the rules from the
Speed Demos Archive. In most
cases, this is from load screen to load screen but here are the cases
where the control gain/loss point is not so clearly defined.
-
Chell awakens - When you first wake, it's not
entirely clear when Chell gains control unless the player jerks the
view suddenly, so that has to be estimated as well. I start the timer
as you look over toward the TV.
-
GLaDOS awakens - On my PC version, I lose control
after GLaDOS says "I've been really busy being dead" but I noticed
others lose control after GLaDOS says "when you murdered me" so in
that case I've tried my best to judge when they lose control.
-
Incinerator Room - Start timer immediately after
GLaDOS says "Here we are, the incinerator room"
-
GLaDOS lair and Falling down shaft - the screen goes
black but my tests show that you can still hear your portal gun
shooting in the blackness. I decided to stop timing when it goes black
since you're blind which means you've lost control.
-
Wheately lair - stop timer when Chell shoots the
moon.
