My Resume for The Long Walk

Origins

I discovered The Long Walk novel in 2018. I had a 3-hour round-trip daily commute and got bored listening to music and podcasts, so I decided to try audiobooks. I remember that I enjoyed reading Stephen King novels in the 80s. I'd see a Stephen King movie in the theater or on TV, then read the novel. My first Stephen King novel was The Shining after seeing it in theaters when it was released 1980. On StephenKing.com, I found the Works, and was scrolling through and discovered The Long Walk. I was actually scared to read it because I knew how intense Stephen King could be, so I wondered if this would be too intense for me. The concept intrigued me, so I gave it a listen. I ended up listening to it 10 times in a row taking notes and building my website. I documented everything about the book that I can think to document like the characters, the route, the timeline, all the warnings, the rules, etc. I then began to write fan-fiction, rewriting it in 2019 to occur in the year 2020.

Contributions

I'm the moderator of The Long Walk subreddit. In 2018, I discovered The Long Walk subreddit. It had about 100 posts but was locked. There was no moderator. So I applied to be moderator and got it, and have been the main moderator ever since. When the movie came out, I needed help, so I invited 3 more mods to help.

Creations

  • Created the most thorough website about The Long Walk
  • Created a Warning and Ticket simulator which works the way I think warnings and tickets work. Opinions vary.
  • Hired artist to create artwork for me. I'm currently hiring that same artist to make artwork based on the movie.
  • Rendered the walkers from the book using Midjourney
  • Fan Fiction: Rewrote The Long Walk in 2019 to occur in the year 2020. I gave the walkers Apple Watches which told them their walking speed, number of warnings, and more. This may have inspired the wrist devices in the movie.
  • Fan Fiction: Currently rewriting The Long Walk from Peter McVries point of view.
  • YouTube channel dedicated to everything about The Long Walk. I have road-tripped The Long Walk twice. Videos on my YouTube channel. I plan to go again, and locate every major scene on the map.
  • Fan Fiction: Created Spectator Guide listing all the walkers
  • Fan Fiction: Created the Rule Book where I padded out the 6 hints in the book to 82 hints
  • Fan Fiction: Brain storming on a sequel which happens 14 years featuring 18 year old Katrina McVries, little sister of Peter McVries. Also featuring 13 year old Jacob Scramm, son of Scramm, and 13 year old Ann Pop, daughter of Abraham. Girls are allowed in fact they have 50 girls and 50 boys.

Accomplishments

  • As of Nov 16, 2025, I have read The Long Walk 8 times and listened to it 19 times.
  • Lionsgate copied my hints from my rule-book and created a hand-typed Hint Books which they gave away at the San Diego Comic-Con 2025.
  • To thank me for helping them promote the movie, they sent me props from movie.
  • Mark Hamill recorded 6 publicity sound-bites of him saying these hints that I authored. They posted it to #jointhelongwalk on X but the sound-bites were not in the movie.
  • One of the sound-bites that Mark Hamill recorded was Hint 45: Making friends may make it difficult later when you have to walk your friend to death. I wonder if that influenced the new ending in the movie.
  • They had signs on the side of the road with the hints that I authored. Here is sign 1 and sign 2. You can also tell they copy/pasted from my website because I added the ® sign.
  • You can see the back of the sign in the movie when they cross the bridge.
  • In the novel, the character that gets his legs run over does not have a name. In the movie, they gave him the name Patrick Smith. Patrick is my name. Coincidence?
