Most reviews have mistakes so I list them below. At the bottom, I include trailers and music videos

NOTE 1: The first synopses I read all had mistakes, but it got me interested in reading it.
NOTE 2: Although ALL reviews have mistakes, they all give the right gist.

Mistake Correction
It's the near future it's not the future. it's an alternate reality
It's post-apocalyptic There is no apocalypse
It's dystopian Not exactly. More like totalitarian because you get squaded for talking about against the government.
The definition for dystopian is relating to or denoting an imagined state or society where there is great suffering or injustice.
Most boys ages 13-18 apply, but only 1 in 50 pass the physical, mental and essay test.
200 are chosen in the lottery, but they have two opportunities to backout.
If it were a dystopian, then 100 boys would be drafted by the government against their will.
Walkers are hand-picked Most males ages 13-18 apply. 1 in 50 passes the tests. 200 are chosen randomly from a lottery. 100 walkers, 100 backups
Written as Richard Bachman King wrote it before he invented Bachman. Published as Bachman
Wrong age range 13-18
Calling walkers boys or teenagers age 18 is adult, age 19 is a teenager and too old
Don't know warnings are based on a timer 2-minute timer measures to 4 decimal places
How warnings and tickets work warnings are issued when their 2-minute timer counts down to 90, 60, 30 and ticket at 0
Not allowed to stop or slow under 4 mph timer counts down when their speed in the correct direction falls under 4 mph
Need to walk 4 mph Can walk faster than 4 mph, or slower, or stop for up to 1 minute 59.9999 seconds every 3 hours, if they lose the 3 warnings
Lose a warning walk 4+ mph for 1 hour Lose a warning if they don't get a warning in 1 hour.
They can fall below 4 mph for up to 29.9999 seconds in that hour
If have 3 warnings (timer is 0.0001 to 30), timer resets to 60 (2nd warning)
If have 2 warnings (timer is 30.0001 to 60), timer resets to 90 (1st warning)
If have 1 warning (timer is 60.0001 to 90), timer resets to 120 (no warnings)
Don't understand difference between
timer and violation warnings
Timer-warnings are given every 30 seconds to let walker know how close they are to death (timer 0)
Violation-warnings are given when they break certain rules like Rule 8 No interference with your fellow Walkers.
Walking in the wrong direction and accepting aid like food and drink from spectators, will get you a violation-warning.
A violation-warning will cause your timer to drop instantly to the next warning on your timer, so 90, 60, 30 or ticket at 0.
Walkers get shot in the head They get shot in the back, gut and other places too
It's televised It's televised from Augusta on
There's a finish line There is no finish line
It's cross-country They walk South starting in Maine next to the border with Canada. They get on route 1 South and stay on it until it's over.
Route 1 goes ends in Key West, Florida. It's impossible to get that far.
Assumptions about the Major's power
or role in government
We don't know what role the Major has in the government if any. He could just be an actor that is paid to play a role as a front man.
Assumptions about the government We don't know about the government
They get a prize if they win They also get money
Tanks follow them No tanks, only halftracks
Crowd only cheers for Maine's own Garraty Others get cheered too

27:18 11. Scramm had 9-to-1 odds

30:34 12. Barkovitch got Rank killed
31:08 13. McVries sat down because he realized he would lose

31:25 14. Barkovitch ripped out his throat because he realized he would lose

32:27 15. Stebbins is short, lanky, sickly looking
34:01 16. Garraty thought his mother was beautiful and wanted to marry her
34:54 17. boners, playing doctor, King has touched on these topics before
39:51 18. they realize the Major is a tyrant piece of crap

41:47 19. they couldn't have sex in their houses because of family
43:21 20. they count down with 99 bottles of beer on the wall
43:54 21. Garraty told the story to Baker, McVries, and Stebbins
44:27 22. Garraty abruptly stops the story
1:00:00 23. very much a Bachman ending
1. It's not the future. it's an alternate reality
2. 51 states. Excerpt "the most fucked-up state in the fifty-one"
3. Some, like Barkovitch, try to get others killed
4. They can go any speed they want. The Vanguard walks faster than 4 mph. If you tried to walk at exactly 4 mph
you would keep falling under 4 mph and your 2-minute timer would keep dropping. It is impossible for humans to walk at a specific speed
5. Their 2-minute timer counts down if they fall under 4 mph. A good strategy would be to sit down and rest for nearly 2 minutes,
then walk over 4 mph for 3 hours to remove your 3 warnings, then repeat
6. They get warnings when their timer counts down to 90, 60 or 30.
7. They are shot dead when their 2-minute timer reaches 0
8. There's no firing squad. Just soldiers. They can be shot by any number of soldiers. Sometimes just one.
9. Barkovitch
10. Larson said "I'm just resting. A guy can't walk all the time. Not all the time. Can he, fellas?"
11. Scramm said "Vegas odds made me the favorite just before the Walk started, Odds-on."
Stebbins had 9-to-1 odds. McVries said "Stebbins, Ray. Nothing can wear him down, he's like diamonds.
"The word is Vegas likes him nine-to-one now that Scramm's out of it."
12. Rank got himself killed by losing his temper. All Barkovitch did was insult him.
13. You're making an assumption based on what he said before. We don't really know why McVries sat down.
Perhaps he was in love with Garraty and decided to sacrafice his life for Garraty.
14. You're making an assumption. In my opinion, he would have never given up, and
tore out his own throat because his mind snapped and he went insane
15. It just says "He was skinny and blond". It does not say short or sickly looking. Barkovitch was short.
16. Garraty didn't consciously think this. It was a dream. Stebbins can read minds, so he knew about the dream, which is why he teased Garraty later.
17. Nothing came before The Long Walk. It's the first novel he wrote.
18. We don't know anything about the Major. Garraty's father said "the Major the rarest and most dangerous monster any nation can produce"
but that's heresay. The walkers need someone to blame, because they are not mature enough to take responsibility for their actions.
They volunteered for this. They had two chances to backout. They should be angry at themselves, but their too immature.
19. None of their family lives in those houses. Only their roommates.
20. It was only Garraty, and he only thought it, he didn't say it.
21. Baker was dead by this point
22. Garraty started falling asleep while telling the story and faded off. It was not abruptly ended.
23. King had not conceived of Richard Bachman when he wrote The Long Walk. So it's a young Stephen King ending.
If King had gotten it published, he might have gone on to focus on SciFi dystopian novels.
